Underneath the tower

During Middle Ages, the Civic Tower of Castelfranco Veneto, the last defence fortress of the ‘Marca Trevigiana’, was a symbol of safety for the citizens who were warned by imminent threatens through the bell ringing.
The Tower, strong and majestic against earthquakes and wars, has become the custodian of time; from 1500 it beats both working and feast days, thanks to the big clock protected by St Mark’s Lion which stands as the symbol of peace and of the passing of time.
